The FIH Level 1 Coach (L1C) Award is the first step on the FIH Coach Education Pathway.

The L1C designed for coaches, teachers and volunteers aged 16+ wanting to start coaching at an initiation/beginner/foundation level, under the guidance of a structured programme and/or a higher-level coach.

Applicants do not require any prior experience of hockey or coaching.

FIH Academy Courses are recognised globally, however, with 140 FIH member nations, equivalence to National Association qualification and requirements, as well as local laws will vary. For further information please contact your National Association or Continental Federation.

Face2Face Format

Our L1C consists of 2 days of face 2 face interactive coach development sessions with up to 16 participants and 2 FIH Educators.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, we hope you are able to:
  • Identify practical and player injury risk factors and procedures in the coaching environment
  • Explore basic concepts of how to coach, including self analysis
  • Explore best practice in session design
  • Understand the importance of and how to plan appropriate warm-up and cool down activities 
  • Observe and analyse the technical fundamentals required to play hockey
  • Define Physical/Mental, Principles, Technical, Tactical and Cultural factors in player management

Programme

The FIH L1C online is usually organised over three sessions of 2hrs each. The planner to the right will give you a rough idea of the session breakdown, however, this will vary depending on the educator delivering and the participants prior knowledge.

All participants are required to complete pre-course tasks and to actively engage in online sessions.
