The High Performance Coach Award (L5C) is designed for individuals working with Senior National Team Programmes looking to develop their High Performance coaching knowledge & skills.

The programme consists of a blend of online, face to face and mentored sessions that support and track candidates through an personalised learning journey. Candidates will join as a class of up to 16 and follow the majority of the programme together.

To join this programme, applicants must hold the FIH Level 4 Coaching Certificate OR be nominated by their National Association and meet the criteria described below.

FIH Academy Courses are recognised globally, however, with 146 FIH member nations, equivalence to National Association qualification and requirements, as well as local laws will vary. For further information please contact your National Association or Continental Federation.

Our HPC/L5C face to face course consists of 33hrs of practical guided learning sessions (usually 5 days x 7 hours), with up to 20 participants and 4 FIH Educators.
Monday lunchtime arrival - Friday lunchtime departure

Course Structure

By the end of this course, we hope you are able to:
  • Investigate and apply modern coaching approaches
  • Investigate and apply performance game tactics and strategies
  • Investigate and apply strategies to manage Performance Culture
  • Create and apply a team tournament performance plan
  • Investigate and design a Talent ID & Development plan
  • Understand Leadership strategies and how to apply them
  • Observe, analyse and describe an Elite team`s performance
  • Observe, analyse and describe an Elite player`s performance
In addition, through the four mandatory workshops:
The FIH L5C-HPC consists of 8 elements, all of which must be completed in order to be assessed for the Award.

Ordinarily, it is necessary to complete the four online workshops before attending the face to face course.
