FIH Level 1 COACH Award BEL (07.26)

The FIH Academy in association with Futures Sports, MH1 Coaching & Leap Hockey Leap Hockey present a day and residential Level 1 Coach course alongside the FIH World Camp at KHC Leuven, Belgium from 16 to 21 August 2025.

This FIH World Hockey Camp is an Official Side Event for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 and includes tickets and a trip to see at least one World Cup Game.

ORGANISED BY FIH ACADEMY AS PART OF THE FIH WORLD HOCKEY CAMP AT THE FIH WORLD CUP 2026
The FIH Level 1 Coach (L1C) Award is the first step on the FIH Coach Education Pathway.

The L1C designed for coaches, teachers and volunteers aged 16+ wanting to start coaching at an initiation/beginner/foundation level, under the guidance of a structured programme and/or a higher-level coach.

Applicants do not require any prior experience of hockey or coaching.

FIH Academy Courses are recognised globally, however, with 148 FIH member nations, equivalence to National Association qualification and requirements, as well as local laws will vary. For further information please contact your National Association or Continental Federation.

About this Course

The FIH Academy Level 1 Coach Award is designed for coaches, teachers and volunteers aged 16+ wanting to start coaching at a foundation level.
This course is integrated in to the FIH World Hockey Camp, providing an ideal opportunity for candidates to learn and practice in a live environment. Candidates will be considered as part of the FIH World Camp Staff Team for the duration of the course, but will be mentored by an FIH Educator throughout.

An induction session will take place on Sunday 16 August from 7pm to 9pm for residential AND day candidates. Other sessions will take place between 9am and 5pm from Monday 17 August to Thursday 20 August - day candidates may depart at 5pm on these days. Evening sessions and attendance on Friday 21 August are for residential candidates only.

Included in your booking fee:
FIH Academy registration fee, course delivery fee, FIH Coach shirt, certification & lunch (Mon-Thurs).

Residential option (additional fee CHF100): As above plus breakfast (Mon-Fri), Dinner (Mon-Thurs), accommodation (twin or single) for 5 nights (Sun-Fri).

Face2Face Format

Our L1C consists of 5 days of face 2 face interactive coach development sessions with up to 12 participants and 2 FIH Educators.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, we hope you are able to:
  • Identify practical and player injury risk factors and procedures in the coaching environment
  • Explore basic concepts of how to coach, including self analysis
  • Explore best practice in session design
  • Understand the importance of and how to plan appropriate warm-up and cool down activities 
  • Observe and analyse the technical fundamentals required to play hockey
  • Define Physical/Mental, Principles, Technical, Tactical and Cultural factors in player management
