Designing the Long Corner in the Modern Game

Dead Ball or Designed Moment?

Reflecting on contemporary international hockey, this session reviews how teams design and defend the long corner as a structured phase of play, pre and post Paris cycle.

Participants will explore:

• How are long corners currently structured in the modern international game?
• What attacking structures create specific types of scoring opportunities?
• How are defensive units are organising?
• What distinguishes routine restarts from deliberately engineered moments?

The session will analyse tactical trends, structural patterns and behavioural demands to support coaches in designing long corner strategies aligned with their own team identity and performance context.
